This Privacy Policy explains what information Wired Lens (“we”, “us”) collects when you visit sudanactivism.com, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We try to keep this short, plain, and honest — if anything below is unclear, email us and we’ll fix the wording.
Who we are
Wired Lens is an independent technology publication operated by Sam Marin. Our website address is https://sudanactivism.com. You can contact us any time at [email protected].
What we collect
Comments. If you leave a comment, we store the name, email address, comment text, your IP address, and the user-agent string of your browser. We use this to display your comment, prevent spam, and (rarely) identify abuse. An anonymized hash of your email address may be sent to the Gravatar service so an avatar can be displayed next to your comment. Gravatar’s privacy policy is available at https://automattic.com/privacy/.
Server logs. Like every web server, ours records standard request information — IP address, requested URL, timestamp, referrer, and user-agent. These logs are kept for a short period for security and troubleshooting and are not used to build a profile about you.
Cookies. If you leave a comment, you may opt in to saving your name, email, and website in a cookie so you don’t have to retype them next time. If you log in to the site, WordPress sets session cookies that expire when you close your browser (or in two weeks if you tick “Remember Me”). We do not use third-party advertising cookies.
Embedded content. Articles on this site may include embedded content (YouTube videos, tweets, code snippets, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves exactly as if you had visited the other website directly, which means those sites may collect data about you, set their own cookies, and track your interaction with that embedded content.
Analytics. We may use privacy-respecting analytics to count page views and understand which articles are read. We do not sell visitor data and we do not track you across other websites.
How long we keep it
Comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely so we can recognize and approve follow-up comments automatically. Server logs are rotated within 30 days. Account information for registered users is kept until the user requests deletion.
Who we share it with
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We may disclose information when legally required (e.g., a valid court order) or to protect our rights and the safety of our readers. Our hosting provider necessarily processes traffic to deliver pages to you.
Your rights
You can request a copy of any personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected] from the address associated with your account or comments. We respond within 30 days.
Children
Wired Lens is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top. Material changes will be announced on the homepage.
